Some carriers have disabled this function so if it doesn't appear under the Applciations tab then you can't do what is called side load apps. I know AT&T in the USA have done this. Let us know where you are from because its hard to keep up with locations/carriers and what they have changed on the phone.

There is something called Sideload Wonder Machine which is supposed to overcome this, but I haven't used it and have heard that when it works its great but it can also be a bit on the temperamental side!

I think this is unfair by any company to not allow downloads other than by the Market App. I had two more of my app's today saying I had updates. I downloaded the updates and the same measage came across. Not allowed because it was an update from the company and not through Market. Very Pissed!!!

I like to see someone with dogged determination. My hubby says I'm a bit OCD cos I won't let things go. Well done on trying to help out. Hadn't thought about the slideme app altho I do recommend it to people without Android Market at all.

Hope it helps cos the Sideload thing from what I have read is as buggy as heck. I'm over on AndroidForums too and people are having the same problem. So if slideme works, report back so I can pass on the good news!

I tried the sideloader app, and low and behold it downloaded it to the phone ,but when you go to open it, it says its unauthorized and won't go any further. From what I have found out so far, its not Android, its At&T that has the block on these phone. Just another way to control us!!! Thanks Jimmy Z.
