as a matter of fact, 2.1 was the last update but after a lot of pressure Sony Ericsson released this ONLY on the X10, but that was it, they haven't released another update to fix all the bugs, but there are good news, you can install ICS custom ROM

I read the comments on the links that uliwooly posted above. but i see that there are allot of things arent working?? but i want a new update for my X10i so what should i do? and how do i instal those things on my phone?

And what meens ROM actualy?

im not technical at al (if you havent noticed yet :smileywink:) so someone need to explane me :smileysilly:.

Timmie you dont really need to be "technical" or a rocket scientist to install an new OS on your phone... The most important thing you need is free time, some basic reading comprehension and willing to sacrifice your phone s warranty and risk bricking your phone.

My advice is not to go with the ICS upgrades yet. There are some really good GB updates that allthough they are not "complete" they are fine for everyday use and functional.

Spend sometime reading the threads, especially the ones for "Newbies", use google to familiarize yourself with terms like ROM, Kernel, Bootloader, Root etc and you are good to go.

Keep in mind that these people are developing on their own time, and should never be held responsible if you damage your device. Every device is different even if they have the same model number.

If you feel brave enough please go ahead and I promise you it s a lot of fun. Make sure you read VERY carefully the requirements and follow the instructions. Advantages and disadvantages exist in every OS, independently if it s "Official" or not. So far the worst ROM I used was the stock GB.

It is problem using ROMs that are not official relase .I had x8 and tried 10 different roms and in evry one of them i found problems that are not fixed ,or battery drain or crashing apps it is always something .So i had enough of custom roms that arent supported by SE

The advantage of custom ROMs are that you know well before installation how many bugs it has and most likely someone is working on them, you can personally contact the developer and he will answer your questions or advice you. Of course by NO means they are perfect (if such a thing exists)... and "roms that arent supported by SE" really?? What OS was ever supported by SE and on which phone? They release an OS with minimum of 20 bugs and then they pretend there is nothing wrong with it. And these people are getting paid.. A LOT.

As to what you said about trying custom ROMs I am glad you are happy with the official releases. I personally cant stand them. I dont think I ve tried as many as you, but my current one I believe is the best I ve ever tried.

To sum up, voiding the warranty and experimenting with a $500 device is not for everyone, but that s the beauty of the open source OS.

Rooting is the way to go-but its certainly no fun.Youve seen reports of things not working etc,but heres some things you maybe wont know

1.You need to set up software correctly on your pc to get tools to work

2.A LOT of links are dead courtesy of the F.B.I

3.Roms-could be 2000 posts to read through for finding errors/remedies

4.Kernels-same as above

5.Developers are dropping like flies(for x10) over at xda,maybe they are getting tired of

whingeing ungrateful people moaning about "errors" etc

6.You can follow every instruction exactly,then next thing your phone doesnt boot,and it could be a while until you get it started again

7.And if all thats not enough,theres a power hungry Moderator(c/w his "iron fist") waiting to intercept the wrong post at the wrong time in the wrong place LOL

It is not that they "dont care" really... No company cares anyways. I believe they underestimated the importance of innovation. That was an unforgiving mistake and the latest news confirm this.

They asked for the maximum amount of $$ they can get and they offered the minimum amount of product. Old fashion greed for quick cash that worked a while ago but now it s too late.

As for the ICS... there are going to be many ports for the X10 but you have to take in to account that ICS was developed with the Galaxy Nexus in mind. Even the 2011 Xperias are going to suffer from the update. Dual core and 1GB RAM are requiements. As much as I like my X10 we are far from that.

I dont mind an official GB 2.3.7 though with no bugs. X10 can pull that easily!

I ve never heard of a "Rooting" go wrong... apart from voiding your warranty.

I am not quite sure what you are talking about here... You mean the "Flash Tool"? it s a simple program that you double click and it installs... all the instructions are on your screen as simple as possible. I am not sure in what languages they are offered...

That is very misleading... if you are talking about the Federal Bureau of Investigation... they dont deal with the developers but with the file hosting sites that host illegal content. Android ROMs excluded.

Usually there is a "change log" on the 2nd post. You dont have to go through 2000 posts unless you want to.

Some do, but there are a lot of new ones. Dont forget that X10 is getting really old...

This is really hard to believe. I almost "bricked my X10 a few times though because it was my fault.

Hope you will help me. I've had a "new" phone for Christmas. My sister baught it something like 3 years ago but used it just for some weeks. She gives it to me now but....
