Xperia Ray mobile network problems after ICS 4.0.4 update

I finally took the risk and updated to ICS 4.0.4 (build 4.1.B.0.431) the latest (but not the greatest) version. WHAT A BIG MISTAKE. Read on....

I did a complete update wiping out everything in the phone and did a master reset after the update just in case.

Surprisingly the WiFi worked just fine.

HOWEVER, the mobile network internet with my service provider is a Major problem.

I noticed that the phone signal would jump from full bars to no bars and no network in a short period of time, the full bars again.

I also have major problems connecting to my mobile network. Even with full signal bars, it doesn't want to connect all the time, sometimes it connects some times it doesn't. It seems you need to try a few times to "wake" up the mobile network connection. But then it still disconnects while using mobile network data.

No hardware was changed on my Ray, only the updating to ICS 4.0.4. This makes me to believe that it's ICS update related.

I will try updating my sim card to the latest version from my provider and see if the situation changes.

If not, I will be very disappointed and regret updating to ICS and will look to go back to GB 2.3.4.

Everything was working fine with GB 2.3.4 that came with the phone.

Xperia Ray ST18a

Yes, try a different SIM. Try your SIM in another phone as well.

Then try to:

PC Companion (PCC) or Sony Update Service (SUS)

Ok, just tried with a new SIM and then did a master rest. Still the same.

The mobile internet does not work all the time. Even with full signal bars some times it does not connect to the mobile internet. Never had this problem with GB 2.3.4.

Very disappointed with this ICS 4.0.4 after one week. Now I must down grade back to GB 2.3.4.

I am no expert in Android rooting and stuff, but I will have to go through the other thread on how to root and down grade to GB.

If someone can kindly answer my questions below about down grading before I proceed, it is much appreciated.

1. I have the north american version Ray ST18a, are the files used to flash back to GB 2.3.4 the same as ST18i ?

2. How do I know I am using the correct files for my ST18a to flash it back to the same GB 2.3.4 that originally came with the Ray ST18a?

Hi,

Unfortunately i have the same problem with my ray, even befor updating to ICS.

I think this is problem wiyh all RAYs, or maybe some models of XPERIA.

I've heard about the same problem in Xperia mini.

I liked RAY's design, size and other features, but very dissapointed, because the main thing in a mobile phone is it's network connecting quality, it's not a tablet for gaming and... But i think RAY has problemes in wifi and mobile network.

If you've tried to Factory data reset the phone and also tried with a different SIM card and still have the same issue, you should call the regional Sony Mobile support office.
