Hi,

I don´t really know if this is a real issue, but I never had such a problem before on a touch device.

Almost every second time I want to scroll by moving the finger in touch with the display, it receives a tap or a pinch depending on the working app.

To be sure that the tablet receives a scroll event, I have to do it very slow with much more pressure I normally use on any touch device.

Furthermore my gloves, which worked with any device I had until now, don´t work.

Is this an issue with my tablet? Or is this a normal behavior? I don´t notice any similar on my Sony Xperia Z Smartphone or Google Nexus 7.

Best Regards

Capacitive touch screens can take some getting used to if you have previously been using a resistive touch screen. Based on the details you have provided regarding the use of a glove I can only assume you previously used a resistive screen as you will not get a touch screen to work whilst using a glove on a capacitive screen. Please also be aware that pressure is not required for use on this type of screen.

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

So why do they work on my Smartphone Xperia Z, but not on my Tablet Xperia Z?

I think, that the reason for that is also the reason for the bad sensitivity of the touchscreen.

By the way.

I have tested there separate units here and have not been able to replicate the issue unless I pause or stutter the scrolling so I would have to conclude that this is not an issue with this model.

@toarni - If the screen responds to finger touch and not the glove then unfortunately you may need to speak with the manufacturer of the glove as the screen is operating as designed.

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

Hi Sam,

after having a bit more time for testing, I noticed that my gloves work well on the corners of the display but not on the rest of the display.

Furthermore I noticed, that touch sensitivity issues get worse towards the center of the display.

Maybe this is an manufacturing issue, which does not appear on your testing devices.
But it has to be an issue on a significant number of devices, because after doing a bit of google research I found some other threads describing exact the same issue. For example:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2300279&goto=nextnewest

If you need more infos, I can post a video of the issue and you will see how annoying it is.

I´m not really sure what I should do. The only thing I know is that my device is nearly unusable due to this issue. But maybe it´s a software bug, which is fixed in the "near" future?

Best Regards

I just had the same problem when swiping through the app drawer, if I swipe horizontally and do short swipes (which I'm used to on my Xperia Z phone and my previous Xperia Tablet S) the Tablet Z very often registers this as a press and launches apps instead of switching page.

I have had about six tablets including the Xperia Tablet Z and about five android phones and none of them behaved like this. Sony really need to take this matter seriously and investigate this. Sam, just because the problem cannot be replicated on your test devices does not mean they do not exist.

For me it really sounds as if the touch panel is too sensitive and perhaps this can be corrected through a firmware update.

EDIT: After some more testing I believe that the problem varies, if I restart the device (once the problem occur) I believe it get's better.

Also for me it's very easy to replicate the matter by swiping horizontally between the screens in the app drawer. If I do short swipe motions it's a 50/50 chance it's detected as a press instead of a swipe. So generally I would say that the device is to sensitive. If I try this on my Xperia Z phone it works all the time, this is also the case when I try it on my Xperia Tablet S.

If you want I could try and record the problem and send it to you, would that help?

I've also noticed that when playing Fruit Ninja, sometimes the touch panel does not register touch input on the right side of the panel. This happens for a second and then it works again...

It would really be helpful if you (SONY) could tell us if this problem is something that can be corrected through a firmware update or if we need to send our units in for hardware repair.

I would also like to add myself as yet another person experiencing touch screen problems on the xperia tablet Z. this is clearly an issue, what is the best method for escalating this to sony? maybe we need to flood news channels so that it gets into the public eye, then we will see Sony take notice? If you try and use a Jot Pro stylus with this screen you will see that it utterly fails to register consistently.

Hi,

I would like also to confirm the issue on mine. I have the SGP321 version (LTE). It is pretty annoying should I send my device back or will a update fix this?

Sony some response would be nice? It has been also reported in xda forums as well. Some users report that you should remove the screen protector that was applied on it from the factory? Sure this cannot be true? I am pretty disappointed at present. Not sure what to do.

I am on version 10.1.1.A.1.253

Message was edited by: isimobile
