If the damaged cards work in any other devices, it would be worth backing up the content on them and then format them via the devices they currently operate in then test them again.

all of the cards that i;ve used have been formatted using the FAT 32 file system. SOmeone from Sony support told me I might need to use new cards but that seems a bit odd. One of the cards that fails is a SanDisk 4 GB SDHC Class 2 card and the other was a Duracell SD 2GB card (i can understand if this one is out of date but not the other one). Do I really need a Call 10 or aboive card for this tablet?

Try having them formatted to the exFAT format as it does support speed calls' 2, 4, 6 and 10.
