at down curve of your tablet you have bar codes and some digits. There is production date in format for example 13W20. It means that the unit was made in 20th week of 2013 year.

Hi everyone

I've recently bought a Tablet Z WiFi (not from Sony). One side of the packaging had a lot of black dust as if it had been stored for a long time and I'm concerned that it may be old stock.

The serial number is CB5A1Q9LR*. Is this a recent serial number?

Many Thanks

Thanks for that but I haven't opened the box yet and don't want to until I know if it is old stock or not (there are numerous barcodes on the box but no production date).

Not sure what your concern on the production date is, but the tablet ( Xperia Tablet Z) was officially released in May 2013 as far as I know. So it may not be that much of an issue unless you are worried about something specific. Does it help ?

Phoned Sony this morning and the girl wanted to help me but couldn't. I then took it to my local Sony store in Derry/Londonderry and met an a**hole who didn't want to help me: he just ensured I will never buy anything from him (big guy, looked like he owned the franchise).

Have now opened the box and my suspicions, caused by a lot of black "warehouse dust" on one edge of the box, were confirmed: produced in week 17. The reason this bothers me is a test I came across when researching which tablet to buy: the tester, who was not an idiot and knew what he was talking about, concluded that Sony had made an unannounced mod (he had tested two Tablet Zs, one when it was released and another later). I forget what the mod was but it solved a problem.
