Random ringtone which can't be turned off

Hello, A few months ago, my Xperia P just randomly started playing one of the standard alarm / ringtones of its own accord, and I couldn't turn it off. The funny thing is, it wasn't either of the tones I have selected for ringtone, alarm, or incoming text / tweet etc, it was one of the generic ones. I went to the sound settings and the clock and there was nowhere I could obviously turn it off. I turned the phone off, but when I turned it back on, the tone piped up again and I still couldn't silence it. In the end the only thing I could do was turn the volume down completely. When I turned it up 15 minutes later it was still going. Eventually after about half an hour I turned it up and the tone had stopped. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution? I might try deleting the tone in question, as it has been the same tone each time. Thanks Stu

What if you boot on safe mode? if the problem persist then its an app acting up.
