Cannot update phone, must update PC Companion.. PC Companion already updated

So I'm having an annoying issue where I cannot update my Z1 in PC Companion. In the past, I'd just go to Sony Update Service and skip the time waste that PCC is, however that is no longer an option. In more detail, I have the following process occur:

1. Run PC Companion (which is the latest version)

2. Click connect phone via USB

3. Plug in phone where it gets detected and am told it is installing

4. Told to update PC Companion by clicking Search

5. Get told I have the latest version and do not need to update.

This is terribly frustrating after putting up with annoying software glitches over the past few weeks and now I can't even reset my phone..

[NB: I could probably do a factory reset on my device first, but I actually would like to run the backup module in PC Companion so I can keep personal files]

Have you tried uninstalling it?

Power uninstall it(delete all the remaining files) and reinstall the latest version of it.

Run it as admin.

Try it and post it here

Reboot your PC on safe mode, disable your Antivirus and firewall, run PCC
