I am having trouble with the GPS on my vivaz. The problem is that it seems to be having trouble finding the satellites and at best only picks up one, giving me a message that says "GPS works poorly indoors and in enclosed areas".

I have had the phone for about two months now and it did work perfectly at first, I have fitted a zagg invisible skin to the phone and cannot recall if I had used the GPS with it fitted but have tried with the back cover removed and the invisible skin peeled back where the GPS sensor is located but to no avail.

Can anyone help or is it a warrenty issue?

I've had similar problems with the GPS getting itself into a state of not working. I found a post listing something to try on the Satio in this situation (in fact quite a few people hit it) and it helped with mine and it seems to be to do with cached (or possibly out of date) gps assistance data causing problems on the phone.

So the thing to try is to go into the service menu and purge the assistance data. With the buttons unlocked use the bottom green and red buttons on the phone in this sequence:

Red-Green-Red-Red-Green-Red

Then select:

Service tests

GPS

Purge assistance data

Then exit the service menu and see if that improves things. Might be worth turning the phone on and off again just for luck, but this step may not be necessary. I'd be interested to know if it does help things start working!

I'm hoping it's something SE are aware of and will sort in the next firmware (i.e. they'll get it to ignore assistance data if it's confusing things when it tries to use what it's got).

See http://forum.navmii.com/showthread.php?394-GPS-Problem-on-SE-Satio/page3 and http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/2661
