Charger Specifications

I recently bought an Xperia X10 from O2, and there was a USB car charger included.. As far as I can tell it doesn't work - the phone doesn't seem to charge from the car socket. But I do have a USB car charger plug/adapter thing from a different gadget, and I'm wondering if it's safe to use it for my phone.

The O2 charger plug doesn't have any specs on it. The mains plug does, and says it puts out 5V at 700mA. The alternate car charger puts out 5V at 650mA. So my question is, is it going to cause any damage to use a lower-than-specified amperage for the phone? I can imagine it being unhealthy to use too high, but I'm not up on electronics so much so I'd appreciate some advice.

Hi,

I noticed your post hasn't been answered so I'm here to help you.

Using the Car Charger you have described should not cause any damage to the handset however as this would be a third party product, I would suggest speaking with the manufacturer of the charger as they should have a list of compatible devices.

I hope this helps

If you've not already tried your car charger in a mates car then I'd do this first. If its screwed then I'd see about getting a replacement from O2.

FWIW, I have plugged my X10 mini into a 3rd party USB car socket adaptor and it charges quite happily.
