Oreo 8.0 has some issues with USB connections, Google fixed this with Oreo 8.1 in December 2017, so we have to wait for Sony to release this update.

ATM I have the same issue and cannot use Android Auto and I'm really disappointed about the QA.

Some other mobile phone companies skip 8.0 because of the issue that version has and we get this buggy stuff. I already contacted the Sony support and I'm still waiting for a solution. Currently, the Xperia phone is not usable anymore for my use cases. At least I can to some basic stuff...

Update:

Here is a link that describes the problem:

http://piunikaweb.com/2017/12/15/android-8-1-fixes-android-autos-connectivity-issues-with-nexus-confirms-google/

It's a bug in Oreo 8.0, we have to wait for 8.1.

Some guys got it working with USB debugging on. With my device this is not working. Hopefully Sony sees how bad this release is and works hard on a solution for us.
