System update in Xperia X Compact

I allowed a system update on the phone and since then have not been able to locate the downloads folder on the phone. There is a new app called Files, but every time I try to use it, the app won't actually open and the phone asks if I want to close app, any suggestions or help would be appreciated, had a load of important docs in the download folder

No error message just asks if I want to close app

this might be a tad tedious but there is alread a built in file explorer. settings>storage>explore>files.

though it is rather much easier to download a file manager in Google Play store

Thank you so much for your help, that last one worked a treat. Phone has been slow to respond and hasn't been working well at all since the system update, which is frustrating, but will probably back up and restore worst comes to the worst.
