It could be the surface you have the turntable on, try moving it around and also try connecting it to another speaker if you can.

Just hooked up a new PSHX500 Turntable to my hi fi system and every vinyl record I put on the turntable comes out distorted sound through the speakers - if I play anything else through the hi fi system CD, etc the sound is fine.

Would appreciate any suggestions as to what may be causing this? Could it be:

1/The weight of the arm - the counterbalance and anti skidding were set to 3 as recommended in the set up manual

2/ I connect the earth up to the Hi Fi amplifier .. maybe it doesnt need it.. though it is not a buzzing earth distortion sound - but an 'overload cooked' sound at all volumes loud and soft
