HX90 display inverted

I've been using this brilliant little camera for several years now, but today it developed a fault:

back display is inverted, and the camera thinks is it in selfie mode (3 second countdown) before taking a successful shot
if I lift the display a few degrees, the image corrects itself and I can take pictures as normal.
the EVF does not illuminate when I look into it.

I cannot find a hard reset anywhere on the camera or in the manual, so assume there isn't one (!)

Soft reset from the menu does nothing to help.

An ideas of how to fix this one folks?
