topic is my trusty Sony disc-u30 dead? in Cyber-shot compact cameras

ive decided to get back into photography using all my old digital cameras, upon starting up my gorgeous blue u30 I find it has a black screen when I turn it on. The screen itself is ok but everything else is black. ive been reading online about a recall on the ccd sensors as they appear to be faulty. have I missed the boat on getting mine done under the recall or is my £200+ camera at the time completely useless?
