i have a vaio z1rsp that I bought in february 2004 for a lot of money. One and a half years later (but still within the 2 years warranty) when I open some programs sometimes bits of the menus/windows stay on after I close them. Ex: I have the antivirus Avast (excellent and free), when I right click its icon in the taskbar, open the menu and choose an item and execute it that item will stay on until i reboot. This happens with lots of other programs so that sometimes I have to reboot or I will have a mess in the display ( bits of several programs all meshed).

Is this a sign that the graphics card is out of order? Does anyone has an idea how this can be resolved? Thank you

Thank you for that. If I change the display resolution, however, the screen clears and the image will be good: I will have the programs logos neatly displayed over my wall paper and no part of a program left unclosed. Is this not a sign that the graphics card (the achilles heels of this otherwise excellent computer) is malfunctionning?
