FS215S fan constantly running

Bought a FS215S a couple days ago after buying a FS215B for a friend, though it seems my (CPU) fan (??) is constantly running, which is quite annoying. My friends 215B only turns on once a while for only couple seconds. My CPU temp. is around 46'C .
Also when turning down the brightness I get that annoying buzz/noise.
I also have a dead pixel 😞 What's Sony's policy about these problems??
But has to be said, the screen rocks!

Hi yonggui, welcome to Club Vaio.

I have a FS215z and my fan seems to run constantly also, the temperature is also similar. I've been told by a couple of the guys here in the forum that this seems to be the norm for these Pentium-M processors and after reading the info at the Intel site this would indeed seem to be the case. However as you say it is a little annoying (& dissapointing).

I don¿t get the buzzing noise from the screen though I know one or two other forum users have mentioned it, but combined with the fact that you seem to have a dead pixel I would seriously consider returning it to the supplier.

It seems when starting the computer from 'cold' the temperature keeps around 36-37'C here, here the fan is not running yet.
Slowly it goes up to 40'C and then the fan hits in, no matter if the temperature is 40'C or 48'C (never had the chance to torture the CPU ), the fan keeps running at the same (slow) speed.
Now I'm just wondering, why not just cool the CPU down more and turn off the fan instead of keep it running around 46'C?
Also why does the FS215B NOT have this "problem"??

Not really sure why they did that, but it would have been better for the user if they did do that

You're absolutely right, mine is exactly the same, it runs all the time, even when it¿s idle, obviously it speeds up as soon as you give the CPU anything taxing to do, like video decoding etc but it never actually switches off. The worry I have is; how good are these fans? What sort of life can we expect from them like this ¿ running all the time?

I wonder if this is typical of all Centrino laptops running with this processor/chipset or if it¿s just a `Vaio thing¿? And like you say; why does the FS215b not have this problem?

Can I ask: what utility do you guys use to find out your temperatures?

Right now I'm using Centrino Hardware Control, www.pbus-167.com

I really hope Sony can do something about this, or maybe a software-hack, but it doesn't look the fan can be software-controlled.

Most fans can last a long time even with heavy use (5 years or so)

Well I have to say that after reading one or two of the comments regarding the FS series I'm keeping a beady eye on this little bugger and in particular the infamous LATCHES but overall I'm very pleased with it and despite the slim build I think its quite sturdy and well put together.
