k series upgrade

hi all, i want to upgrade my k series vaio.
i have found out that i can upgrade the memory from 512k to 1024 by inserting an extra 200 pin sodimm 512k card am i correct?
i want to upgrade my hard drive from 40gb.
i have been told i can put in up to 100gb and i need a 2.5 inch hard drive is this correct?
i have seen a couple whilst browsing and the seagate and the toshiba look to be ok.
if i install either of these do i need to download any updates for my bios?
and help/suggestion or advice is much appreciated.

If you have 512ram at the moment you want to make sure that you do not have 2x256mb chips because if you do you will need to buy 2x512mb chips to get 1024mb.Any notebook hard drive should fit fine and you wont need any updates.

as far as i am aware i have 2 512 slots.
it is a k115m notebook if this helps.

If you run the Crucial System Scanner it will tell you what memory modules you have at present. The chances are that you have two 256 Mb modules installed.

Here it says that you have 2x256mb chips this means that you will have to invest in2x512 to get the ammount of RAM that you want

that was pretty cool!!
i just scanned using the crucial scanner and it said this:
Your computer currently has 512MB of memory installed; and will support up to 1024MB.

Slot 1
256 MB
Non-parity DDR PC2300
Slot 2
256 MB
Non-parity DDR PC2300
so yes i need 2x512k cards!
i thought i had the 1-512k card and a spare port.

If you found that programme useful you might like to have a look at Everest Home Edition, it is free and will give you the full spec on your machine (including memory installed)

You might want to keep the old Sony RAM by, as it technically voids the warranty to use anything other than Sony "The Ripoff" RAM. So if it needs to be sent off for repair or you develop problems, it's good to have them by to stick back in and avoid further problems or debate over your warranty's validity..

2 x sodimm memory cards
1 x Toshiba MK1032GAX HD110 100gb hard drive
if any one prefers the seagate or the fujitsu instead please feel free to put forward the pro's and cons lol:smileydevil:
