Replacement keyboard for PCG-SRX51P/A!! Please Help

Hi,

Im posting here because its my last resort Ive tried to contact sony vaio and sony about getting a replacement keyboard for my Sony PCG-SRX51P/A part number 147693931.

When Ive tried to ring them over the past few days I've been told that they do not sell parts for a sony laptop. I first rang 0870 240 2408 and was on the phone for 20 minutes waiting, when I finally got through to someone I was told that sony do not sell any spare parts for my laptop. I was told to ring the head office in sony in which I was given the number When I rang the head office they told me to phone the parts centre another number which I was given. When I spoke to the parts centre they told me that they do not sell parts and that I would have to send my laptop to Germany to get a quote they gave me an estimate of £300 - £350 + shipping to replace the keyboard however I would need to get it repaired at sony.

Do sony not sell replacement parts for my keyboard that I can replace myself? Almost £400 for a keyboard is crazy brand new sony laptops from the US start from around £500.

Welcome to the Forum.

What's up with the keyboard?

If it's just a case of a couple of keys that have fallen off I understand that Sony will send out up to five keys for your keyboard which you can replace yourself.

I don't think Sony do send out spare parts as they can earn more money by getting us to send our PCs to them .

£300 - £350 sounds an awful lot of money though. Why not click on

this site for a cheaper alternative:smileygrin:

Thanks alot for your replies.

I dont think it can be repaired, I accidently spilled half a bottle of water of it. I left it to dry for a day however it wouldnt boot up. So I left it for a week and thankfully it boots up the only problem with it now is that half the keys on the keyboard dont work.
I've opened and lifted the keyboard up and I cant see any damp inside the keyboard/motherboard.
Im guessing all I have done is wrecked my keyboard? Not sure if it can be repaired.

I would suggest trying to repair it yourself -It looks like it has improved a bit since the bump...

Most keyboards consist of the keys on a rubbery/springy sheet which then contacts 2 plastic sheets with an imprinted circuit on. (I would expect Sony to have the same, but I have had no need to open my one up yet..)

If you can access the plastic sheets I suggest using cotton buds to gently wipe between the affected contacts. Be very gentle when between the plastic sheets as they have plastic welds holding them in position. If you dry it out and unstick the contacts I am sure it will work.

I have had a keyboard replaced last year by Vaio-Link for 210 Euro - including everything. I dont know where your nightmare £400 price comes from, but its way too high.

Neither do I 😕 it came from sony though they said the price would be so high because they had to ship it insured to Germany.

Ive tried both LaptopSolutions and Tech-Nomart and both either dont sell them or dont keep them in stock.

Any other ideas?

The quick and cheap way is....external USB keyboard! Well, it will affect the "portability", but not the wallet !

If the f.... keyboard has some keys blocked, therefore making your laptop un-usable, just disconnect (physically) the bugger! Windows wil not be be bothered that internal keyboard is not there anymore...

Besides batteries, they ignore laptops there, Kee-Lo....
All you get with computer/keyboards is....a standard computer's keyboard (5$) and a wrist resting pad (40$ !!!!!!!!). Guess it must be VERY comfortable!
