I know from my PC that at 72 degrees, the system starts to reduce the CPU usage. That is the critical point of the CPU. At 90 degrees the BIOS would shotdown the system to prevent the CPU for a damage.

A HDD should never work with more than 50 degrees. Unless this disk was contructed for this temperature. Normally, you can reach this temperature only with heavy usage. Like a defragmentation, for example.

Hi. Laptop keeps shutting down, noticed the underside gets very hot even though it is raised to improve air flow.
Utility 'Speedfan' shows HD0 temp 55 c and ACP1 temp 83 c and indicates these are way too high!

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Pamcom

Is the Vent Fan working?
Check temps using another program like Everest as Speedfan sometimes can Exagerate the Temps, Once on mine was showing a temp of 116c.
Are you checking temps when its idle?
If you are getting the same temps theres possibly a hardware fault, as 86 is very high.
HDD temp isn't realy that bad still high though

Awwwwwwe, that is too much. 55 degrees should be the limit of your HDD. Approx 72 degrees should be the maximum of your CPU. More than 90 degrees and your CPU is dead.
