SONY IS DEFINITELY MESSING WITH US !!! LOL

Hi guys,

I know that quite a few ppl have been waiting for Sony to release out those AV-dock stations for the A and FS series laptops as separate accessories, (they are currently only bundled with new laptops).

Well the "kind of" good news is for the FS owners only up to now. Yes, if you check sonystyle.com (us site) the AV dock for the FS series laptops is now available, so it will probably be available in europe at some point. (Hopefully).

BUT there's a catch (as always with Sony apparently) they say its only compatible with those models bought in Summer 2005. I believe thats for software reasons and not hardware ones. Therefore i guess if someone can get his hands on the required software it shouldnt be a problem.

Apparently they are NOT supplying the necessary software for the stations. Your laptop has to come with those. That's why I said "kind of" good news.

As for the A-series owners (I'm one of them) no luck yet. Now why? I just can't think of a good reason... Why making the FS AV dock available before the A series its a thing to wonder. I mean, there should be (and most probably are) more A-series owners (and therefore potential buyers) around since the A series has been out for a year now. The FS only came out 4-5 months ago.

OK. maybe i've analysed this too much. but anyways I thought some of you might wanted to know....

What a waste. They sell a docking station, but no one will buy it. Because no one can use it. And a FS with docking station is cheaper than without. Particuarly if you want buy the dock it later.

Who is the stupid here. We or Sony?

The same thing with the overpriced RAM. NEVER BUY SONY RAM.

Another crazy decision by Sony, the docking station should work for all the FS notebooks.

Wouldn't hurt them to offer the software on CD alongside the hardware, specially for the price they'll want for it!

this might be a wide sort but i was thinking how is sonys shares doing in the market, are they improving alot or nothing or a bit. just a thought. But i guess sony are only doing this with pc and notepads and not other products like cams other things.

I completely agree with you and I think Sony is definitely not on the right track.

I am in a worse position because I already owned an A series Entertainment dock until it was stolen.

Now I can't even repurchase it, although I have all the software required for it. And I am pretty sure that GigaPocket does not work with any other TV Tuner.

And I am waiting patiently for the release of it but I am so pissed of that I guess I will stick to an external USB TV tuner.

That really is a terrible thing to have happened. I would be:smileycry: !! I hope that you are in contact with Sony, to see if they can replace it for you, or can your insurance help.

That said, one question... when you still had the AV dock, how well did it work? Is it as sexy as it looks?

I have an A117s, and am tempted to get the new A417s, especially as I have been really disappointed with the external USB TV tuners so far. And ideally I would look at the A497XP and get an AV dock(if sony would release it) cos I would really miss WUXGA resolution. (sad I know)

Well I had unfortunately only 2 months to use it before it was stolen. And I did not have any problems and was very pleased with it.

I already have contacted every Sony representative I could, but their solutions lead to no where. They wanted me to contact the DAPC (Sony Direct accessory Center). But although I explained the situation they could not find a solution for me. Obviously because they don't have such a accessory.

The dock is huge and looks very nice. Actually it is the same size as the PRA1 dock they have as an accessory but the only difference is that it has a built in TV Tuner and some other connections.

I have also contacted some Sony representatives asking if I could buy the AV dock s of the refurbished models but I got no reply whatsoever.

All in all I liked it very much and thats why I am insisting on buying it again and not going for an USB one.

I would be very happy to get a clear sentence from a Sony representative saying whether they are going to offer this thing seperately or not. I am tired of waiting.

Maybe i will just sell this one and buy a new one WITH the AV Dock.

I am pretty sure they have hundreds of old A series around with AV docks but they seem to ignore it. I am ready to pay whatever price they ask for it.

You're right I probably would have to sell it for much less than I paid but if thats the only way I will do it. (If I can find somebody to buy mine of course:) ) Or I could sell it and never buy Sony again:smileydevil:
