Hard drive activity

Hello

I have a Vaio PCG-GRX316MP and the HD is almost always running ( activity) Is a brand new installation of the OS WIN XP PRO and is complete clean

what can the problem?

The hard drive is having activity all the time, like if an application is running and accesing the drive, the light is constantly flashing, even when I'm not using the pc, and whe I do use the pc is slower than before, µI have check for malware ans is ok

disable the Swap file and Hibernate. Then you must restart.
Defrag the HDD. Then create a new Swap file and enable Hibernate.

Do you use 2 Antivir Softwares? That could be the problem too.

This is normal if you have 256MB RAM, as SP2 uses quite a lot of RAM.

If you have a wireless card there can be a lot of activity as it's sending and recieving data from the router.

Try Seb's advice though

Yes it's sad, but Windows XP is a pain with 256MB Ram. I tried it.:smileyrolling_eyes:

My GRX316SP has a gigabyte of RAM and the hard drive still ticks every couple of seconds. It's just a 'feature' of the model . . . .

I wouldn't disable it, clearing it will do
