The problem is that the docking station includes a USB to printer adapter and does not have an actual legacy parallel port.

For that reason the port can be addressed only via the corresponding USB driver. That is fine with printers since you can select USB001 in the port field in the pinter properties, but for your MIDI interface it will be a showstopper. I am reasonably certain that your MIDI interface needs to be connected to LPT1, the legacy parallel port - which does not exist in your system.

Midi Interface problem -possibly BIOS settings ?

Hello all, this is my first post here. I've recently aquired a 217s for music and want to use the docking station for connecting a MOTU Midi Interface (Express XT) using the printer port.

Main problem I'm having is the laptop can't see the Interface, and I suspect the BIOS settings need to be changed.

My question is how, and does anybody know what the default mode is for this port ?

It may well be, as I've read that this particular Interface has driver problems with XP, I have to go to USB.
Any recommendations welcome.

Lyn

Hi

The BIOS is locked on the VAIO, so it's probably easier to get a USB interface.

The latency is much better.

Avoid Creative's offerings, apparently the latency is quite poor for MIDI

The chances are that SPP will not be available.
To check or alter your settings (if available), press F2 repeatedly during boot to access the BIOS settings and navigate, using the arrow keys, to `Advanced¿. You will find help there on how to alter the settings for your printer port.
