hi guys (again)

well ive solved my stupid FN problem and ive grown to love the double time problem with audio (although if someone could solve it i would be grateful) but what i am sick of is the occasional non-boot....

what i mean by that is that when i turn my baby on sometimes i get no nice yellow dots scrolling across the windows xp home screen as the drivers load. my only solution at this point so far is to yank the battery out and start again. not good.

can anyone suggest a solution or at least tell me how to reset my laptop in a slightly less drastic way..... there must be a reset feature/button...

owen

What O/S and version are you running.

I've had similar intermittent problems in the past caused by poorly patched versions of Windows 2000, or by incorrect display drivers being loaded.

The only way I've found to clear it is by yanking the battery out too

alright mate.

im running the supplied version of xp home, although i did initially wipe this in favour of a copy of xp pro but that didnt work with any of the graphic drivers so i went back to xp. in all fairness the computer shop i bought it from did all this for me and they are pretty good at what they do.

its always had this shitty freezing problem which happens all the time and i just yank the psu out and start again. this cant be good for it though. is there no reset feature like on a desktop? if not that is utterly shite

owen

If it has been doing that since you bought it, return it and demand your money back under the sale of goods act. Drastic, but this should not happen.

If you have a Motherboard with via chipset, try to install new chipset drivers from www.viaarena.com.

a similar prob i had was a faulty ms secutrity update, thank god i forget the number everytime. i found a patch for that on the us vaio support page
<SNIP></SNIP>
This utility will install the Microsoft® Window® XP Operating System QFE KB822827 to resolve an issue where the computer stops responding after installing the Microsoft® Windows® XP operating system Security Patch Q811493.

File is: MI-Z28270803BS04US.EXE

on http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/

hope that helps

have you tried using the 'restore operating system' function on the VAIO CD which came with your laptop? This resets everything on your hard disk, so should work.

Good Luck!
