Hi

I have a 816s laptop and I'm noticing some dark marks or spots on either side of the mousepad. Someone suggested it could be because of sweaty palms :smileyhappy:. So I tried to clean the laptop surface there with a damp cloth but it had no effect. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The marks are most likely just due to teh fact that you are a heavy user and the marks are actually the paint being polished away. I suspect the markst will gradually get darker. (you probably alsdo find that the letters are wearing away from the keyboard)

The only realistic solution is to buy some sticky backed vinyl and cover the whole of the "wrist-rest" area.

any other ideas chaps??

try cling film!
i have and found it to be effective even across the touchpad.sexy2

In Japan, you can buy soft keyboard covers for laptops. This allows you to eat digestive biscuits and coffee while at your laptop. I have never seen them in the UK though...

Oh yes, a full cling could be quite liberating, and as for protection, it would keep sticky substances at bay, off the keyboard that is :smileyrolling_eyes:

I have seen it on a TV program, but it's not readily available in the UK

Wow...so many replied - and what a great bunch you are! I didn't realise Sony had a forum, and it's such a great thing to have!

Yes I am a heavy user, there is no one day where I do not use my laptop - in fact I feel like I am missing a friend when I have not used it for more than a few hours.

Hmm...paint being eroded? Hmmm...that sucks because I like keeping my laptop looking lovely and new...

I love my VAIO too Sul, I get withdrawal symptoms when Im away from it. And some interesting ideas from the guys to try and keep it nice

In the interests of science and just for the hell of it...
I tried sticking a PDA screen protector over my mouse pad (ooh Missus!!)

(If any of you use a Ipaq or PDA, you should be using a screen protector to stop the touch screen getting scratched and damaged)

With one of these fitted, the mousepad works as normal. No risk of the touchpad paint being worn off, and the protectors are not too sticky either (easily removeable)

I have an ipaq...and I don't have a screen protector - I've only had it for a week now. Do I need a screen protector if I have a protective leather case?

A screen protector is a good idea - it will stop you scratching the screen with the stylus if you get any dust on it.

I use "WriteRIGHT" screen protectors by Fellowes (www.fellowes.com). The clarity is nearly as good as using the ipaq without a protector.

Screen protectors are onyl a few pounds for a pack of 10 and a single protector lasts me about 3 months. Some people have trouble fitting the protector without creating loads of bubble, but with practice it is OK.

It is very easy to scratch the PDA screens. You just need a small piece of grit on the stylus and the screen is ruined...A new screen is approx £200....ouch!!
