hey, I've got a PCG-FX702 with 512MB of RAM installed....just lately Windows has been reporting that I only have 256MB installed. Both of the RAM sticks are fully functional, +just recently I've installed Red Hat Linux as a dual boot OS on here. Any ideas on whats happened to my RAM? Dead RAM slot maybe??
Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like one of the slots has died.

Any ideas on how much a repair would cost? Or is it not really worth it?!

Well they quoted someone on here £750 to get them a new motherboard, so I would suggest you get a nice new one.

You not the only one experiencing this problem. (The link to the best website discussing these problems is: <<a href="http://hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/5449/>" target="_blank">http://hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/5449/> ) There are over 100 people from all over the world who have written in or complained about the same issues with many series of the VAIO laptops. There was a person in the USA who tried to start a class action suit, but there has been no response.

How old is your laptop?
