Shutdown

I have a GRT716S, and when I do hard task (encoding, virus scanning ...) it always shutdown after a while.
I believed it was a virus, but, I forgot this idea. Even with a clean boot cd, the virus scanning didn't end, the computer shutdown before.

So I tried some monitoring software, and the only thing I can monitor is the heat of the hard disk drive, which is 40° when I do nothing during one day, which is 53° when I chat, and which grows up to 64° when I do hard tasks before shutdown.

Is this a CPU overheating ? Is this hard disk overheating ?
What should I do ?

(It is impossible to create an account for e-support, each time I enter my name and serial, it sends me to the same page)

Sounds like your CPU could be overheating.

Try cleaning out the cooling fan and heat exchanger as this eems to be a common problem.

If it is the same way as a GRX remove the speaker grill, unscrew 1 screw located under the firewire USB cover and gently slide the grill too the left.

Lift up, avoiding disconnecting any wires / ribbon cables and rest gently against the screen (Tissue or something useful to avoid scratching the screen).

The keyboard can then be removed by unsrewing a screw located on top edge, middle of the keyboard. Tilt back gently witout removing the ribbon cable and rest it on the touchpad / palm rest area (tissue again).

Your fan and heatsink will now be visible for inspection cleaning.

Obviously if your laptop is under warranty you may not wish to attempt this, however I doubt a clogged up fan / heatsink would be covered anyway and would incur a charge.

William

http://pub173.ezboard.com/funofficialsonyfrm8.showMessage?topicID=3109.topic
