Hi! I'm a new member and i want your opinion.
I'm about to buy my first laptop and i don't know if i have made the right choice:

Sony Vaio GRT996VP

Note that i live in Greece and this is the only Sony Vaio GRT model that i can find.
Is it a good machine? Should i wait for a new model with Hyper Threading?

The spec is brilliant, I think it's a good buy, but maybe some of the owners could back this up.

What about HT?

Firstly, thanks for your fast reply!!

My only doubt is if i should wait in order to find P4 3 GHz or 3.2 with Hyper Threading.
Will HT make a big difference or it does't worth the extra money.
The rest specs are very good and the cover my needs.

Please help me if you can.

I don't think HT is worth the extra money, in some cases it makes processing slower than normal P4 processing.

Consider some AMD Athlon XP 64 notebooks.

I agree with you about HT.

Unfortunately, there is no AMD 64 laptop in greece
Even SONY has only 2 vaio in greek market (GRT996 + Z1)

Do you know if Sony will update the GRT series soon.
If not, i think i buy GRT996

No. Win XP are English version.
How can i buy a sony laptop from UK? From internet?
Will the guaranty "work" in greece, although i will buy it from UK?

Ah yeah I think you have a good point there, not sure if the warranty works for all Europe, that's something you'd have to ask VAIO Link.
