AW31M - New HDD Procedure

Hello,

My AW31M's HDD just died

I've ordered an exact same HDD to replace.( WD5000BEVT - 22A0RT0 )

So, can anyone point me to instructions (or explainations) as to how to get my lappy back up and running ?

I've 'some' knowledge' of drivers and installing OSs, but never done a complete swap out before.

Is it just a case of putting the HDD in, installing windows and then the drivers from Sony site ?

Will it indeed just see the new HDD when I pop it in, or do I have to 'do something'.

On the drivers side of things...LOTS of quastions ... !

The original machine had Vista, and I upgraded to W7.

So, looking on the Sony drivers page, there's a load fo drivers for preinstalled Vista, and another set for W7.

Not all the Vista drives are in the W7 section.

Is it just a case of visually going through the lists and installing a Vista version if the W7 section does not have an equivalent ?

Is there a site/list that clearly explains what all the drivers are for and which are mandatory, which are optional ?

Is there a specific order in which drivers should be installed ?

Do I install drivers/apps/utilities before I alow the Automatic Windows and Vaio updates to take place ?

As you can see ... a little guidance here would be appreciated.
