A quick question and a campaign for a decent vp case!

Hello all, got a vaio pocket last week and think it's a great bit of kit, the few problems I've had have been easily solved by browsing this forum, so thanks!

Anyway, I got my vp last week because it was on special offer at a local store but I am currently between pc's at home hopefully getting a new one this weekend. Because I'm impatient and wanted to play with my new toy I used my work pc to transfer some albums across. Now when I get my new pc at home, I want to use that with my pv but I know this can't be done without losing the current tracks (which dosn't bother me) but is it as simple as just plugging the vp into the new pc and re-initializing through sonicstage or do I have to do a reset on the player first.

Also, on a similar note, I was going to try copying the music files I've encoded on my work pc to cd-r and then copying them to my pc at home to transfer back onto the vp, any idea if this would work?

Finally, I've noticed a lot people on here discussing cases for the vp and that the only options are the difficult to get hold of sony pouch and the pdair case for the 20gb vp (I have the 40gb). Well, I contacted a company you may have heard of called krusell who make excellent bespoke cases for mobile phones, and also now for the ipod. The bloke replied saying that they don't currently make a case for the vp but if there was enough interest they would. So, if you want the chance of a nice protective leather case for your vp, send krusell an email to tell them via their website at www.krusell.se

It is interesting people say they lose their music. I have two different computers in two locations with very different amounts of music in SonicStage. I often connect my VP to each one and haven't lost any music yet!

Really , and both pc's recognise the player without re-initialising? That is interesting!

I probably put the kiss of death on it....haven't used the computer at home with Sonic Stage for a while (+4 months) but I don't recall any problems....what is the worst that could happen if I am wrong?

Same here.

I have a work desktop loaded with SS 2.1, a laptop with SS 3.1 and a home desktop with SS 2.1. I can dock my VP to any of the machines and load CD's into SS library and transfer to the unit without issue.

Hello there - my first post.

These guys have a stock of the VGP-CKP1 case

However it's not cheap £39.99 , but it does fit well both 40GB and 20GB
Astonishingly an example of this case went for £106 on eBay Recently ( I kid you not!)

The case is on Micro Anvika at £9.95 but is out of stock - However a sales represenative from the company said that they are discontinued and so will not be restocked.

SONY cases are just expensive !

And I can confirm that the PDAir coase DOES NOT fit the 40GB model.

As I have said this is my first post -I will post more thoughts on the VAIO I have recently bought soon.

Hi

I have just bought a PDair case for my VP, to replace my VGP-CKP1 case. I take it that the 40Gb model must be a lot thicker than the 20Gb version, and that why it won't fit?

If so time for ebay again !! At least i can also sell my Sony case too at the same time, and judging by the demand might make a profit!!

As amazing as it may seem although the 40GB model is only 3mm thicker than the 20GB it won't fit the PDAir case. I thought that being leather it would "give" 3mm - but the case is extremely rigid at the vital point and so the 40GB model just will not fit.
PDAir refunded my money no problem.

Those lovely people at Krussell are considering making a case - An email from them informs me that a request has been made to the product develpment team - we shall have to wait and see!

The SONY case VGP-CKP1 is quite good - questionable if it's £40 good - but a good way to protect the VAIO so I'm glad I bought it.
