I am really happy with my VP, but has anybody the same problem, that the date (that one you see when its in the cardle) is 'burned' into the display? I mean that you can still see the date when the VP is on, also it is only very light.

My next question: Is it possible to make a backup of the hole VP so that you only copy everything from your VP to the pc and then back again. Does this work? I doesn't want to test it because after formating my PC I can't transfer my music back.

thx

There is a backup functionality within Sonicstage. Think this preserves the rights management of the music tracks. Use this if you plan to format the VP and restore the music files.

I think you can set the backllight to be on permanently when it's in the cradle - I guess you probably did that. Screen burn is a problem, that's the reason computers have screensavers, they're not just something to look at. I don't know the technical reasons behind screen burn. Just done a quick google and came up with this link .
Apparently the screen burn is reversable in most cases, but involves either leaving the screen off for a long time (which i guess you don't want to do) or displaying th inverse of the colours burnt in (bit tricky with the VP). Still, I'm suprised it's happened cos you wouldn't really expect the date/time etc. to remain the same for long enough to burn in. is there a particular time/date visible?

If indeed the screen burn is an issue - more people must have this symptom. Just one person ?

You are right, as the time is constantly changing, I'd expect a 'block' of burn rather than single digits.

At the end of the day, if I need to know the time I look at my watch.... You have to rub the VP Gsensor to see anything anyway it's so dim, what is the point ?!!

A simple mod to software by Sony could turn it off surely ?

Yes, it would be good if I could turn the date/time off.

The problem is also only with the date especially with the month and year. There is neither a problem with the clock nor with the day. But I think it can't be that I'm the person with this problem.

Perhaps it is possible to use the image view function of the VP to reduce this burned-in. I will test it.

This i found on the website which is linked above.

Another interesting thing is that not all LCD's are equally susceptible to image persistence, even ones made by the same manufacturer. As I mentioned earlier, I have 2 Dell 2001FP in dual view mode and both were showing the same exact wall paper for the same period of time. One had the image persistence, the other one didn't. Both monitors were manufactured on the same date and have the same screens panels. Why this occurs I don't know.
