my vaio died saturday 25 6 05 and it's only 4 week's!! old
I updated the firm ware and ss. Took a bit of working out but after formating the vaio it worked fine apart from loosing the new skins.
Friday i transferd photos from my fuji camera (no problem)that same night i downloaded them to my pc(still ok)
Next day listning to some tunes the thing stop's playing!! screen littes up like blackpool and tells me its up dating files(this continues for 5 hour's all the way to dixson's)thay changed it no wories. Is this a common problem ??or just me not knowing what the****im doing.I think dixson's may get fedup if i turn up every saturday so i dont want to risk photo transfer just yet.

Haven't seen anything quite like that, but 2 comments: 1) make sure the vaio is in the cradle and being charged/powered when upgrading the firmware and 2) if anything like this happens again try the reset button, it's a hole on the bottom of the unit which you can stick a pin into. However, my brother and I both have VPs and we haven't had much trouble with them since Christmas, so I think yours was a one off.

there's a reset button! nice ill try that next time you'ld think you would get usful info like that in the instructions .The vaio was in the cradel and powerd when up graded thou has any one ells lost the new skins when formating.

Those kind Sony people do mention the reset facility in their instructions. Thankfully I have not needed to use it myself.

It is quite logical that you loose the skin dir when you do a format, just copy the skin folder from the firmware update back to the root of the Vaio and they are back.

yeh in the download instructions that is not even mentioned in the suplide instructions

You should call VAIO-Link to have it replaced.
