I have a PCV-RX301 which is networked to several other pcs via ethernet LAN.
I transfer large amounts of data from the 301 to one particular pc, Duron 1100, in the network (and we're talking gigs here so previous suggestions of using a memory stick are out of the question). Being a bit fed up of waiting upto an hour to tranfster 20-30gigs at 100Mbs via ethernet I thought I might take take advantage of the unused i-link port on the Sony and installed a firewire card in the other pc instead of the ethernet card. Connected the 2 together, configured the TCP/IP settings and we're away.

Both pcs detect the connection at 400Mbs. However when I try copying between the two pcs the fastest transfer rate I can achieve is around 100Mbs - so no net gain. Task Manager reports usage averaging 20%.

Can anyone explain why the transfer rate could be so far below the specified maximum?

Many thanks in advance

I understand that the transfer rates are theoretical maximums. I would have thought that you would be restricted to the 'weakest link in the chain' - presumably the older PC with the Duron?
