Power Supply/netzteil verandern (englisch+schlecht Deutsch)

Hi dear Sony forum users,

I buy a Sony RS 102 since a month,
and I am wondering if I can chance the power supply block.

In fact, I am planning to buy a Fx card,
but these one ask for a 300+ Watts power.
And the one integrated mit the computer ist a 185 one...

I think yes, but I prefer to be sure.

ich habe einen RS 102 PC vor 1 Monate gekauft.
Aber ich will das Netzteil ersetzen.
Nämlich will ich einen Fx Graphic Karte stellen,
und diese Art von graphic karte verbrauchen 300+ Watt.

Und die Netzteil meines computer "gibt" nur 185 Watts!

so kann ich die ersetzen?

Hi,

The PSU is removable, so I think you can remove it easily.

You should be able to change it without any problems - make sure you keep the old one in case you need to return the computer under warranty

you are sure I can?
because 185 Watt is not so usual-I never found one in retailers .

but remove do not mean change,
I mean the seller told me "you have only 1 chance on 3 that the alim suit your computer",
not because of the size, but because of the wire...

I'm 99% sure that the supply will be a standard ATX power supply - any competant computer hardware guy will be able to confirm this for you if you let them have a look.

Putting a power supply in that has a higher wattage rating will cause no problem. The difference between the 185W and say a 500W supply is that the 500W power supply can supply up to 500W whereas the 185W one can only supply 185W. So in short, the 500W one will only supply 500W if 500W is needed. The 185W one probably isn't even giving out 185W, simply because it is not required.
Of course you do have to be careful and ensure that everything lines up correctly on the new power supply with your case, as I know my PC (RX405) has the pwer supply in a swing caddy that screws t o the side of the PC case, so some new ones may not fit, I really don't know the situation on that one. You would hope any new one would fit, but then again...

Yep, if it's standard ATX it should fit - but that's not 100% sure.

Chuckalicious is correct - the power output of the transformer does not relate to the voltages supplied.

As long as the output voltages of the existing P/S match the new P/S then you will have no problems.

Yep, it's like a plug, doesn't always use it's full 240w.

Youre confusing me now, a plug is 240 VOLTS.

Its all in the amperage of the appliance (or in this case computer components)

AMPS x VOLTS = WATTS

Ampere - The unit of electric current, equal to a flow of charge of one coulomb per second (where a coulomb is the charge carried by 6 x 1018 electrons). It is useful to think of current as a flow of water, in litres per second. A larger flow usually needs a bigger wire (or pipe) to carry the extra electrons (or water).

And never forget Ohms law - The current through an electrical resistor or wire is proportional to the potential difference across the two ends and is inversely proportional to its resistance.

ie I = V/R
