Just bought a vaio. When I turn on after being shut down the battery is down to 83% even though it was fully charged when shut down. This has happened over short periods -12 hours. Is this normal or is the battery faulty? any advice appreciated.

Actually I am experiencing the same issue with my VAIO.

Doesn't matter if I choose to hibernate or shutdown, after 8 hours (the period of time I am sleeping) the battery is running lower than before. I use the Battery Care software with the Super Battery Care setting which limits the battery charge to 50%, in the morning it's in the 35-40's even with me plugging the laptop to AC power before I start it.

I suspect it could be due to wake-on-lan being enabled but there's no BIOS option to disable it nor in Window's device manager..

I have an AR51SU and if I leave the battery in when it is switched off it will lose about 17% charge overnight - even if it is plugged in when I restart it. Sony reckons that's perfectly normal. I don't! I take out the battery every time I turn it off. Battery doesn't discharge very much at all that way.

I have been talk to some people in regards to batteries in general, and what I'm understanding now is its best to drain your battery once a week completely (using the laptop with normal usage) in order to maximize its life expectancy.
P.s Anyone who tries to drain the battery using any other method please keep it to yourselves as your method will only VOID your warranty with Sony. BE WARNED.

I'd really like to get people's thoughts on this. I have the same problem with my vaio P series, it looses about 30% of its charge over night when it is completely turned off. Sony support state that I should expect this to happen. In fact their official line was that a battery in a sony laptop drains between a fifth to a quarter of the power that it uses when turned on when its turned off. Interestingly speaking to their sales team, this isnt the case and a sony laptop shouldn't lose any charge when its turned off.

If that makes any sense Sony told me that if your battery life is two hours you should expect that from fully charged it will drain completely in ten hours even when the unit is turned off.

Have you heard the same?
