Hi thegoldseller,

When do you get that message? Are you trying to install from a Retail XP Disc?

If your Recovery Partition is still intact you can recover your Vaio to its original factory state with XP installed. Unfortunately, you will lose everything added since you bought it - Programs, Updates, Settings, Data.

First reset the BIOS Defaults
1. Turn on your VAIO.
2. When you see the Vaio logo, press F2 several times.
3. You will get the PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility window.
4. Press F9 to get default values and then press ENTER to confirm.
5. Press F10 to save changes and exit and then press ENTER to confirm.
6. You have restored the default values and your VAIO will now restart.

Then run the Factory Reset (which will reinstall XP)
1. Make sure your Vaio is connected to the AC mains adapter.
2. Turn on your VAIO.
3. When you see the Vaio logo, press F10 several times.
4. This will start the recovery. Do Not interrupt the process until it is finished, even if it appears to have stopped.

If you want to reinstall from a Retail XP Disc, exactly when are you getting the 'not a Vaio' message? Usually resetting the BIOS defaults and installing the Sony Utilities will fix this.
