Hi, can anyone help me. my Sony Viao, has a blank screen.

You can just see the desktop, and sometimes on start up, it comes on for a split second.

Can anyone help.

If you can see the desktop, the likely cause is the backlight not working.

Does the desktop look normal when you shine a torch on it?

Try attaching an external monitor - is the display normal?

You probably need a new inverter - which supplies high voltage to the backlight. But it could be just a bad connection to the inverter. Inverters cost about £25 - have a look here: -

Thank's for that. My screen has been on, but flickers then turns off.

You can see the desktop screen very vaguely. I am using a monitor at the moment.

Yes, I would like to fit it myself. I think that part is under the screen

Hi Iclarky,

I have sent the manual but I am not sure how difficult it is to get to the inverter.

It may be worth just looking inside for loose wiring first?????

Hello Blencogo/Iclarky.

I have recently experienced exactly the same symptoms!

I'm very interested to know if Blencogo's suggested fix worked?

I would be very keen to take on the repair work as I'm finding it impossible to source a laptop replacement with a screen which get's close to the resolution of the VGNBX297XP.
