If you can see the desktop, the likely cause is the backlight not working.

Does the desktop look normal when you shine a torch on it?

Try attaching an external monitor - is the display normal?

You probably need a new inverter - which supplies high voltage to the backlight. But it could be just a bad connection to the inverter. Inverters cost about £25 - have a look here: -

http://www.notebookworks.co.uk/new-sony-vaio-vgnfs-vgnbx-pcgfx-series-inverter-cseb6-p-11702.html

You will need someone to look inside to find the exact cause. If you want to try this yourself, send me your email by PM and I will send you a generic BX-Series manual.

My screen has been on, but flickers then turns off.

You can see the desktop screen very vaguely. I am using a monitor at the moment.

Yes, I would like to fit it myself. I think that part is under the screen

Thank's lclarky.
