I have a VGN-FZ21E with an nvidia GeForce 8400M GT GPU. I have two issues with this.

The first is that I get no audio over my HDMI output. There are no audio or HDCP settings in the NVidia control Panel. If I go to the Control Panel, then Sound, the panel says that my HDMI device is not plugged in, although the video displays corrctly. When I select Properties, it says the device (the SigmaTel audio driver) is working correctly. Could this be an HDCP or other configuration issue? Is there a setting to fix this, or do I have a hardware problem?

The second (in response to the above) is that I have tried updating the video driver from within the Device Manager, but it says I have the latest (from 11.01.2008), which I find hard to believe. However, according to NVidia's drivers site there is a more recent driver for the 8400M GT, that is also compatible with Windows7, to which I want to upgrade soon. This is called Verde Notebook Release 265, Version 266.58. When I tried to install it, the installer gave an error message that it couldn't find compatible hardware. When I run dxdiag, the result correctly displays the GeForce 8400M GT graphics device. However, when I an alternative hardware check suggested by NVidia ( run debug, then enter "d c000:01") it just comes up with "IBM Compatible" and doesn't mention GeForce at all. This looks like some strange setup by Sony. Does anyone know what is going on here, how I can get out of this situation and be confidant when I upgrade to Windows7?

Message was edited by: gcutler
