Windows Explorer crashes every time I try to access the Control panel

Hi!
When I click on control panel (actually it's called Systemsteurung - my Vaio is in German!) in the start menu, a pop up box informs me that Windows Explorer has stopped working. It offers me the option to restart Windows Explorer but this doesn't help. Any ideas?
I have a Vaio VGN-NR21S running Vista.

First place where I would start would be Vista's Event Viewer.

Type Event Viewer (or the german equivalent) in the Start Menu.

On the left choose Windows Logs and then System.

You can order the items by Date and Time (takes a while because there should be a lot of events).

Usually, when something goes very wrong the correspondent event has a red exclamation mark (!) and the level is "Error".

If you can find the event but can't make any sense of it take a screenshot and post it here, I'll have a look and see if I can do anything to help you
