Sony N11 DVD drive help

I have a Sony N11S/W and the DVD RW (QSI SDW-085) drive isn't recognising any discs i put in. I have the most updated drivers and have device manager says it is working properly. Any ideas how to fix it?? Thanks

Hi barnesy99,

If there are no error codes in Device Manager then it is likely you will need a replacement - is your Vaio still within warranty?

Have you tried: -

1. Updating the drive firmware to Version AS72_60915 ?
2. Uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and rebooting to refresh the drivers?
3. Cleaning the laser lens with a liquid cleaner?
4. Check that the reading head in the drive can travel freely from one extreme to the other?

After that you will probably have to recover your Vaio to factory settings (after backing up your data to drive D:\) to see if that fixes it - if not a replacement will be needed.
