VISTA - Driver Problems

Hey people

i have been trying to sort out my laptop but not able to do anything so far. I have
VGN-SZ3XWP, i am having problem with

- Camera not working at all, and could not found the driver so far, i opened a case in e-support put still no response. without this integrated camera, laptop is useless.
- My dvd-rom stop working and on 'device manager', dvd-rom section, i get 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)' error.
my dvd is matshita dvd-ram uj-832s
- And also loud noises from the fan. i tried some suggestions from the forum but still could not sort it out

CAN SOME1 PLEASE HELP ME (F1 F1 F1!!!! )

Hi Sal,

Are you still using XP or have you installed Vista?

For the DVD Drive, you can fix a Code 39 Error like this: -

The following involves changes to the registry and I recommend that you either make a backup of your registry or set a System Restore Point.

Then:

1.Click Start -> Run and type: REGEDIT , and hit enter.
2. Navigate to –

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

click on this and locate UpperFilters in the right-hand window, (if it exists) right click on this and select Delete and then OK.
3. Under the same Registry Key locate LowerFilters, (if it exists) right click on this and select Delete and then OK.
4. Quit Registry Editor and re-boot the computer, new registry values will be created that will hopefully cure the problem.

After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, you may possibly need to re-install your burning software if it doesn't work – but not usually.

For your Camera it will depend on if you are running Vista or XP - let us know and we will try to find the correct driver.

Sorry Sal - I didn't read the heading :smileyd_oh: you are obviously using Vista.

To do the Registry edit in Vista I think you have to click on Start and type REGEDIT into the Search Box.

I'm afraid the Camera problem is a known Vista bug. Microsoft have produced a hotfix KB931812 but it will not work until Sony produce a new Vaio Camera Control Utility to fix the other half of the problem. This is not available yet but hopefully will not be long.

THanks mate. i have dvd-rom problem is sorted. i believe everyone has the camera problem because my girlfriend recently bought sz4 and her camera is not working as well.

i only have brightness control problem left (not considering the cam). i am unable to change the brightness. i can use FN function but brightness stays at 1 bar and cannot change anything. if you have any idea about this please let me know
