The reason I used the Forum is that I couldn't find an Email link on your website and didn't fancy trawling through the lengthy list of standard QAs offered under the support section. I found a helpline phone number but its a premium rate and I can use my broadband link at no extra cost.

I bought my vaio VAIO S2HP laptop 3 years ago from Dixons in Birmingham. At around £1700, it was more than 3 times the cost my previous laptop so I'm disappointed at the lack of information and resources (eg info on compatible components, etc) on the website. It seems the previous models listed don't go back that far. Sorry, Sony, but if the models become obsolete so quickly I'll be buying elsewehere next time. If I've missed something, I'd welcome some feedback.

For info, I was looking for a plug in broadband card to replace the installed dial-up.

Hi berkley01 and welcome to Club Vaio.

This is a users forum - not the official Sony support but we will try to help.

You will find the specifications for your VGN-S2HP HERE

I'm not quite sure what you want to do. Do you want to connect your S2HP to a broadband connection on a phone line? If so, you will need an external modem that can connect to your Vaio either by the Ethernet Port or by the built in wireless connection. When you order broadband many ISPs provide this modem free.

If you want to buy your own modem, have a look at THIS ONE which will connect EITHER by cable or wirelessly with your model Vaio.

If you give us a bit more information on what you want to connect to we may be able to help further. Just to set your mind at rest, your S2HP is not out of date - it has the same T/100 Mbps Ethernet and 54 Mbps wireless capabilities as any brand new laptop you would buy today.

Advice to purchase a Wi-Fi ADSl router is best option for you and your portable laptop with Wi-Fi in my opinion. Wi-Fi with and ADSL connection to internet is so liberating that its a necessity.

I have a VGN-S3HP and am currently preparing for a full and final switch to Vista Ultimate. I have updated the memory from 512Mb to 1Gb (easy) for less than 30 Pounds and will eventually swap the hard drive to 120Gb (Hard drive change not for faint hearted as it involves stripping the Laptop down)

Anyway what I wanted to state was my VGN-S3HP is able to run Vista Ultimate well with “full aero interface” with just a memory upgrade, However the VGN-S3HP has a slightly better Graphics Card with more memory than the VGN-S2HP.

So all in all not too bad for a three year old laptop....

Just wish it was clearer how to Install the OEM version of Vista I have purchased with the Sony provided Vista drivers in an order that worked consistently and well, but hey at least Sony are already giving me the opportunity to update via the support site. (And I want to provide positive feedback to forum)

Here is the thread where I am adding and will add more comments as I reach the ideal and clean Vista installation on a VGN-S3HP with all necessary Sony drivers and utilities http://club.vaio.sony.co.uk/clubvaio/GB/en/forum/viewthread?thread=40292&offset=60#200056

I want to attempt to have XP, Vista and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn running on my VGN-S3HP once I install new Hard Drive.
