Removing HDD

Hello,

if I want to remove the HDD from my VAIO PCG GRT785E is it necessary to disassemble the whole unit? I think that the HDD is located on the right side of the notebook over the battery pack.

Hi g_gierke,

I am almost certain that the HDD is accessible without disassembly with the GRT series as this is very similar in architecture to the GR series.

Have a look to the rear of the battery compartment where you should find a cover plate that can be removed by unscrewing a couple of screws (from underside of notebook). Behind that should be the HDD.

If I am wrong on this maybe a GRT series owner will advise….

I plan to change the original HDD (40GB) with a Hitachi Travelstar E7K100 with 80 GB or 100 GB and 7200 rpm. Can someone tell me is this HDD a good choice and can I use a HDD with this capacity.

I am using that very drive (80GB) in a GR series and confirm that it is an excellent drive and your model will handle the capacity
