After transfer from Win7 to Win8?

I have a notebook VAIO VPCZ23S9E. I made the transfer from Win7 to Win8 according to the Microsoft offer. Before my mobile broadband was working well. After the transfer I cannot even find the mobile broaband unit among the devices in the Device Manager. Apparently I need a driver. Any suggestions what to do?

Hi Björn,

Can you let us know which route you followed for the upgrade? Only a migration, rather than a clean install, is supported by Sony and you will find a sticky at the top of the Vaio and Computing forum that will provide more detail.

If you did opt for a migration then you will find the available upgrade drivers on the support site.

As there is only limited support for this model when upgrading to Win 8 there is the possibility that some of the original functions may not work as expected but wireless should not be one of them.

Thanks for a quick response. I did a migration. I found the page with the drivers and I have installed those, which have a clear reference to mobile broadband, but no help yet. I will have to go through the discussion in more detail to se if there is something.

Have you tried installing the original WWAN drivers and manager in Windows 7 compatibility mode?

I haven't a clue whether this will work but you have nothing to lose in trying.

Hi... maybe you have just noticed but take a look if not: could wifi adapter be switched off? . I mean disabled in two possible ways : software disabled or hardware disabled.

Software disabled : go to net and shared resources Center , then change adapter settings : look at the adapter icon and click secodary to see if you can activate it.

Hardware disabled : activate the wifi switch or use the "fn"+ wifi key(it depends on the model what key it is) to turn on wifi adapter.

Of course you have tried it before but think it would be useful to remember.

You said : " I cannot even find the mobile broaband unit among the devices in the Device Manager " ... then you could try clicking secondary at the top equip icon and "look for new hardware" it would detect your wifi adapter then it automatically would try to install the driver you have installed.

W8 has and "Air-plane" mode that turns off the wifi adapter... take a look at it

Yeah, I have tried that in various combinations. The problem is that I do not see the mobile network hardware in the Computer Managenemt/Device Manager screen. I suppouse that the hardware should show up if there is a driver there. Right?

I have yet to hear of anyone getting WWAN to work on a Z-Series upgraded to Windows 8.

I thought it was not compatible but I hope to be proved wrong if anyone has had any success. If anyone has done this, please post how here and help other users with this problem.

Hi all... then ... what about a usb card? ... it's cheap , small and usefull ...could be a solution if all other things fails.

About the Device Manager that's not exact...maybe system can detect hardware but it's not able to install proper driver then should show a tip where the hardware name is...That's why i told you to click right on equip icon and "search for hardware changes".You could even try the "Add Inherited Hardware" option but it requires drivers disk.
