Hello, how can I enable the FN key functions? I think, I deactivated the key, but I don´t know how I did that? Maybe it was my little brother....Please help! I can´t change the loudness level of my VGN-FS215B with the FN-key + F3 (F2, F4 or brightness level) combination!

It's not your little brother fault... the guilty one is VAIO Update!

After updating with Vaio update I had the same problem. Now my S and Fn keys do not work anymore.

I contacted the e-support and they told me to download the original utils pack and run the setup wizard on folder 6.

This removes Vaio Control Center. Then reboot and rerun again to have it installed. They sayed it should fix the problem, but for me it did not work! I added a comment, but I'm still waiting for a new answer.

I disabled some elements in msconfig, but after an reboot I enabled the same again. Now my FN-key and S1, S2 don't work, 😞 but the OSD and volume-keys work.

I hope anybody know a solution!

@fabio81
If you get a new answer, please tell us what the e-support say.

I have an indirect solution. I just used the system restore of Windows (Systemwiederherstellung) one day before I manipulate the msconfig. Now all works fine!

But anyway, I'm interested in a solution from the e-support. The vaio-tools seems very complicated in the function alltogether.

I don't know why disable and reactivate some autostarts such unanswerably problems result in.

I think that you disabled the hkcmd.exe when you tweaked the msconfig. As I recall this autostart command is needed for correct function of the FN keys. There is an other command as well but I do not remember which. Also the VAIO Event Services utility is needed for the FN keys.

Try downloading the VAIO HOTKEY UTILITY from Vaio-link (for your model)
http://www.vaio-link.com
click support>drivers and updates>(it will ask you for your model no or serial number)
Hit "GO" or press Enter/Return.
Download the VAIO HOTKEY UTILITY from the Windows XP catergory.
Install VAIO HOTKEY UTILITY

You will need to enter your serial number (on the bottom of your PC) perhaps.

I had the same problem on my SZ1VP/C. Sony Support have come and replaced keyboard 3 times and system board. Their next step was to give me a new computer, but while I was waiting for this I downloaded the original Utilities suite. There are 14 folders, each containing a setup.exe file. I ran each one, cancelling the install if it said the software was already there, and tested the Fn key after each one. Folder "Utils Installer 5" performed a "maintenance routine" on "VAIO Event Service". This fixed the problem!
