DRIVER NEEDED: Analog Devices AD1981B (Windows XP)

Hi.

I'm looking for a driver for this:

Audio Chipset: AD1981B - 16-bit CD-quality stereo sound

Chipset Manufacturer: Analog Devices

Audio Type: AC Link

Computer model is Sony Vaio PCV-RS402 running Windows XP.

No joy I'm afraid. And when I try installing the initial drivers I get no success either.

I should adivse that I recently had to reinstall XP from a disc due to numerous issues.

Upon successfully doing so, the only thing I am now without is sound. I've tried numerous things but I just cannot get my sound working.

When I click to run the exe file from the driver (all drivers were on my D drive so remain in their initial state), nothing happens. No error message, nothing.

Really stuck here. Any further assistance would be most appreciated.

Hi davidmorris87,

Have a look in Device Manager for the audio device that possibly has a yellow warning symbol indicating that the correct drivers are not installed or possibly the audio device is listed as something other than AD1981B. If so try updating the driver using the ‘Have Disk’ method.

Extract the files from the installation package to a known location.

Click Start > Control Panel.

Double click Device Manager.

Right click the device and select Properties

Click the Driver tab.

Click Update Driver.

Click Browse my computer for driver software.

Click Let me pick from a list...

Click Have Disk....

Click Browse and navigate to the folder where you placed the extracted files.

Click OK.

Click Next.

Click Finish.

Reboot your system if requested.

My mistake, I gave you the Have Disk method for Vista/Win7 not XP, but pleased to hear that you figured it out...

For anyone else following this thread here is the correct procedure for XP.

Extract the files from the installation package.
Click Start > Control Panel.
Double-click the System icon. Note: Select Switch to classic view if the system icon is not visible.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click Device Manager.
Click the + symbol in front Device Category to expand the section.
Right-click the Device and click Properties.
Click the Driver tab.
Click Update Driver.
Click No, not this time and click Next.
Click Install from a list or specified location and click Next.
Click Don't search. I will choose the driver to install and click Next.
Click Have Disk....
Click Browse and navigate to the folder where you placed the extracted files.
Click OK.
Click Next.
Click Finish.
Reboot your system if requested.
