Tablet shutting down "due to high temperature"

I have an Xperia Z2 tablet SGP511 and it keeps shutting down only several minutes after switching it on.

The on-screen message says that it is due to high temperature, yet the device feels stone cold (front & back).

Android 6.0.1

Android security patch 1 May 2016

Kernel Version 3.4.0-perf-gc14c2d5

Build number 23.5.A.1.291

I have performed 2 factory resets with no effect.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sadly if 2 factory resets haven't helped then its probably time to

get in touch with Sony Mobile Support.
