2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

@Anonymous @Captain_WD. I ran Seatools drive check long generic and the results were good, I also ran the extended test with the Samsung drive manager and that also came back good. I can only presume that the tv is at fault.

The engineer came around on Monday to look at the fault with flashing red led x6. Diagnostics came back with faulty led back lights (both sets) and as there are no replacement parts then I will be receiving a new tv (shame it'll be a KDL43W755C). That'll be tv No.7...

Some of the Amazon prime shows are hdr such as Mozart in the Jungle. But
only a few Sony tv's got the hdr update. It's also very difficult to tell
if you're watching hdr on Amazon prime as Sony tv's give so little
information on resolution etc when pressing the info button.

@mk1.golf.1983 I'm sorry to hear that. If the drive is passing the test it should be safe to use and shouldn't be the cause of the problems.
Post back if you encounter troubles with the new TV.

I would ask for a refund and get a good TV!

You must be within your rights to do that!

I sure Watchdog would enjoy your story.

Ok so the first tv we received in August had terrible clouding and with the lack of hdd recording we returned it for a full refund. Having looked around at other sets in our price range the picture quality was the best on the Sony and we also found out that Sony would be releasing the hdd recording in October so we decided to buy the same model again from the same retailer.

Upon receiving the 2nd set we noticed that it wasn't a brand new unit, it was packaged in a large generic brown box and the wrappers for the stand, remote etc had been opened, needless to say that that unit was returned.

The third tv was replaced/exchanged by Sony due to the red flashing led x6.

The 4th tv had the same red led fault, replaced/exchanged by Sony.

5th tv from Sony had a bent panel/screen and bezel (Good quality control, not).

6th tv 6 red flashes of it's led, confirmed led back light error by engineer. Also producing a strange fault with rebooting with the hdd plugged in?

Wondering what no.7 will be like...
