2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Hmmm I'm the troll for pointing out that a few ranting prima donnas do not represent anything like the actual reality of the overall satisfaction with these tv's. At least I'm beginning to find the idiotic ranting funny rather than irritating.

Sorry to say but you are a Troll it as simple as that, I respectfully
suggest you go and find some toys to play with as that's how your comments
are coming over to me as....as a child.

Okay I'll come back when this thread isn't littered with self centred egotists and is actually about trying to report or solve issues. . 'Simple as that' as you rather idiotically say.

My, what a flurry, it's just like old times! But I take it these are mostly old issues, also.

i think I will stick to my guns, the ramp-down in posts here very much correlates with my own experience with my set, which seemed to be misbehaving in an 'average' sort of way - never bad enough to need replacing, never as well-behaved as those used largely as monitors.

Just used normally, but widely, to watch TV and use the apps, which I guess might be average sort of use.

But I have £1400 says the set didn't used to be good enough for ordinary family use, which is the cost of the Samsung I had to replace it with just before Xmas, or face a family revolt 😞

Too late now - the set is in my den, where I could tolerate its foibles - but I would be bold enough to try and use it as our main set again, and be pretty confident of it, now in June.

Of course, your mileage may differ, either way. But as an average set, getting average use in an average way, my strong impression is that it has moved from not fit for purpose to nearly or completely fit for purpose, with the software upgrades it has had in those six months,

At least I am not a Troll with a child's mentality. Someone asked a
question about the TV if they have had their problems solved, I answered no
basically as they are not good TV sets. You basically attack anyone who
tells the truth, what does that tell me about you?
Simple you a child who hates bring told something. So yes stay away until
you grow up in your mentality. Simple as that.

Your post is not helpful and being personal towards others reflects badly on you. Your post reads like a child has written it.

I own exactly the same model TV as you. I have previously experineced pain like many others and was not a happy customer at all. But....

After the last update I can report that I now have a stable TV that does what I expected it to, it's responsive and picture is delightful.

I have no idea why your specific TV is not operating as desired and cannot see why mine should be any different to yours.

Stop with the ranting please, the forum is to get issues resolved in an clear concise manner so that Sony can work on the fix. Having to read through all the BS angst is going to impact and take longer.

To be honest I think there are too many people who work for Sony on here (On the QT) and like to cause problems when people post the truth about these sets, Im not getting personal as in my opinion this Gary person is acting like a child who does not like the truth being told.

If people cant accept that then dont attack others for speaking it, some of you may not have had the same problems as others but it does not mean that those who are still having trouble cannot speak their mind.

To say my post reflects badly on me when I am only replying to a post with the truth says a lot about some of the people who roam these posts, keyboard warriors who propably have nothing better to do in life than attack others via a forum and who would not dream of being like it to someone face to face.

My reply to the poster about if these TV's are okay was truthful and factual, if people want to attack me for speaking that then they will get a reply back that has been warranted.

I have problems with mine, I dont have the time to take it back as I work unsocial hours so the shops are closed, Currys have been about as useful as a chocolate teapot as have Sony. I feel sorry for anyone who has these TV's and very sorry for the peron who has had their one changed so many times.

The post about a new one being delivered with a bent screen says it all about how Sony have lost control of its own quality control, if I were to do the same in my work I would not have a job, it is probably the same for most people on here who work hard to buy these sets only to find they are not exacly what they thought they bought.

Sad to say I think posting the truth is how things do improve, if you post about something that is working okay in a thread about 2015 Bravia Android TV Issues is not exactly a good thing to do, this thread is about the problems these TV's have, not about the the problems they dont have.

I have posted many times before on here and all it seems to be is a place for the keyboard warriors to have a go at others who genuinely have issues, my question to these people is if you dont have a problem them leave and let those that do have a say, not to attack them.

i am sure Sony put these people up to it, its interesting to see some of the posters have only a couple of posts yet seem to want to command others, well get your own forum thread, this one is for issues not egos and some of you really do have some on here.

I do not work for Sony and I paid hard earned cash for this TV.

I post to counter your negative posts in that you and others say do not buy these TVs. I say they are as good as anything out there and most likely better.

REALLY HAPPY CUSTOMER.

PS another post to this long thread.

@adyjay33

Nobody on here works for Sony - that is half the trouble. They can sit in their bunker, and just get the filtered, sanitised, version from the likes of the tireless Quinnicus.

i think we need a variant of Godwin's Law that we can invoke when the old 'secret shills for Sony' argument comes up, as you are accusing your fellow posters of bad faith.

But they too are posting the 'truth' as they see it, just as you are posting your 'truth', based on your own personal experiences.

And all our views can be a bit blinkered, as there are no objective stats for returns and repairs as a percentage of sales of these sets, and no industry, or other maker, benchmarks to compare these figures with.

But do remember; when you point the finger, you have three fingers pointing back at yourself.
