There are a few channels that Freesat carries, even if you get a full complement of terrestrial channels from a nearby main transmitter.

And depending on where you live, especially if you are on a relay transmitter, there may be quite a few Freeview channels you can’t get OTA, but could get on Freesat.

If you currently own the Freesat box you speak of, tune it in and take a note of the channels you get, do the same on the TV’s terrestrial tuner, make a list there and compare the two.

If you are wondering whether to buy a Freesat box specially, go to the Digital UK Coverage Checker, input your postcode and house number, tick Detailed View, and see what muxes (groups of channels) you can get. If this is restricted to less than the full set of muxes, then Freesat as well is probably worth getting.
